Leaving the ACT

If you are travelling, please remember the situation can change quickly. It is your responsibility to follow all public health directions of the place you are travelling in.

If travelling to an area when it is COVID-19-affected you may require an exemption to gain re-entry to the ACT and be required to quarantine for up to 14 days upon arrival.

Whenever you travel, you should monitor for symptoms for at least 14 days, get tested with even mild symptoms and keep checking for updates about where you have been.

Check the government website of your destination for the latest information :

Leaving Australia

There is ban on Australians travelling overseas except to New Zealand.

The Smartraveller Travel Advice is Level 4 - Do Not Travel overseas.

Exceptions include:

  • for those citizens who usually live overseas
  • where travel is essential
  • where travel is in the national interest
  • on compassionate and humanitarian grounds.

Australian Border Force manages these exemptions.

More travel advice is available on the Australian Department of Health website.

Face masks for air travel

Face masks are mandatory for people aged over 12 while inside the Canberra Airport terminal and during domestic commercial flights in and out of Canberra.

If you are transiting through other states or territories to reach the ACT, you must check the advice from that state or territory.
