Wear a face mask

If you are 12 years or older you must wear a face mask when indoors Wearing a face mask can protect you and others.
If you are 12 years or older you should wear a face mask when inside in a public place.
This includes:
  • shops
  • buses taxis
  • hospitals or care homes
A face mask covers your nose, mouth and chin. You should also wear a face mask if:
  • you have symptoms
  • you are with someone who might have more chance of getting very sick from coronavirus (like someone with a health problem)
  • when you can't take 2 steps or stay 1.5 metres apart from people you don’t know
There are different types of face masks. You do not have to wear a face mask if you have a: 
  • problems with your breathing
  • serious condition that affects your face
  • disability or a mental health condition.
