COVID Smart events

Organised Event Requirements

  • Organised events of greater than 5,000 people must submit their COVID Safety Plan to ACT Health for review.
  • Exemptions are not required for large events.
  • All event organisers in the ACT are required to develop a COVID Safety Plan for each of their events.
  • The ACT Government does not require the use of a standard template for event organisers to use in developing their COVID Safety Plan.
    • However, the plan must be in writing and produced on request by compliance and enforcement officers.
  • Check In CBR is no longer required for organised events that are not ticketed or pre-registered.

COVID Smart events

Events are important to our community.

They create jobs, provide entertainment and keep people connected to their community.

The ACT Government is supporting the safe return of events across the ACT.

Event organisers should be aware of the changing nature of COVID-19 in all jurisdictions.

The public health directions may be tightened or eased before your event goes ahead.

Please consider how this would impact your event, and whether you can upscale or downscale your event to adhere to new restrictions.

If the COVID-19 situation in the ACT worsens, your event may need to be changed or postponed.

This could be due to:

  • increased cases of COVID-19 community transmission in the ACT
  • concerns or issues from other large events that have been held in the ACT
  • the situation in other jurisdictions.

Notifying ACT Health of an event with over 5,000 attendees

Please use this online form to notify ACT Health of your event if it will have more than 5,000 attendees.

Please ensure you have filled the form in correctly and uploaded your current COVID Safety Plan to ensure it can be reviewed quickly.

ACT Health will work closely with organisers of these events to ensure a COVID Smart event.

If you have any questions about the notification process or would like to seek an exemption from the Public Health Direction, please contact
