Canberra construction workers are reminded that all non-essential construction work is not allowed during lockdown.

During lockdown only essential urgent repair and maintenance services, for example plumbing, electrical and heating repair, can occur.

All other construction projects, including residential developments, home renovations and non-urgent home maintenance services, such as gardening or painting, are expected to stop.

WorkSafe ACT is continuing to regulate workplaces during the lockdown and are working closely with industry and unions to do so.

On construction sites, only emergency works or safety provisions that have been approved by a WorkSafe ACT inspector prior to proceeding can take place at this time.

WorkSafe ACT in partnership with the Australian Federal Police are actively on the lookout for any non-essential work and conducting random inspections. There will be consequences for any non-essential work that is being undertaken illegally over the lockdown period.

Further guidance for the ACT construction sector is available on the Lockdown in the ACT webpage.

WorkSafe ACT is available by phone and email to respond to any workplace issues as normal. WorkSafe ACT can be reached on 13 22 81, after hours on 0419 120 028 or through email at worksafe@worksafe.act.gov.au
