08 September 2021

There have been 20 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the ACT in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday.

Of these cases, nine (9) are linked to known cases or ongoing clusters and 11 remain under early investigation. Seven (7) were in quarantine during their infectious period, seven (7) in the community for part of their infectious period and six (6) still under investigation.

There are now 193 cases who have recovered, which means there are now 231 active cases associated with this outbreak.

As of 9am this morning ACT Health continues to work with over 1,500 people who have self-identified as close contacts of ACT outbreaks.

There are currently 10 patients in ACT hospitals, including two (2) in intensive case and one (1) requiring ventilation.

Almost 3,400 tests were collected across the ACT yesterday, from both Government and private providers.

ACT Pathology, along with our private providers, returned 3,467 negative test results in the 24 hours to 9am today.

Our vaccination efforts continue across the ACT with total vaccine doses administered now at 230,961.

We have over 350 current exposure locations listed for the ACT. Canberrans are asked to keep up to date on new locations on the ACT COVID-19 website.

Changes to testing sites

With the Access and Sensory Vaccination Clinic moving to a dedicated space at the Weston Creek Community Health Centre to expand its opening hours, there are several changes to testing services commencing today.

Testing services at the Weston Creek Walk-in Centre and the Drive through at Brindabella Business Park in the Canberra Airport are now closed.

The COVID-19 Surge Centre at Garran will re-open as a testing clinic from 2:00pm today, Wednesday 8 September.

Children of any age will be able to be tested at the Surge Centre. It will also include a dedicated Access and Sensory testing service for people with a disability or mental health condition.

We continue to urge Canberrans to get tested with the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms and as soon as symptoms start.

Further information on symptoms, testing locations and opening hours, and wait times is on the ACT COVID-19 website.

Stay COVID Safe

We continue to remind all Canberrans of the ways they can protect themselves when undertaking essential activity outside the home.

Make sure you are:

  • wearing a mask and wearing it properly
  • maintaining good hand hygiene
  • physical distancing from people outside of your household - at least 1.5 metres, and
  • check in everywhere you go with the Check In CBR app.
