24 August 2021

There have been 30 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the ACT in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday.

Of these cases, 13 were in quarantine during their infectious period. Of the remaining 17 – 11 were infectious while in the community and six (6) are still being assessed.

There are now 167 active cases associated with this outbreak.

As of 9am this morning ACT Health continues to work with over 12,400 people who have self-identified as close contacts of ACT outbreaks.

There are currently four (4) patients in ACT hospitals. Of these patients, two (2) are COVID-19 positive but not in hospital for COVID related issues, and two (2) are receiving care for COVID-19, with one (1) now receiving intensive care support and ventilation.

Over 5,600 tests were collected across the ACT yesterday, from both Government and private providers.

ACT Pathology, along with our private providers, returned 2,411 negative test results in the 24 hours to 9am today.

Our vaccination efforts continue across the ACT with total vaccine doses administered now at 191,435.

We now have almost 400 exposure locations listed for the ACT. Canberrans are asked to keep up to date on new locations on the exposure locations page.

Today’s case numbers are high but not unexpected. We are now seeing household and close contact transmission as part of the outbreak.

This is why it is critical that Canberrans continue to do the right thing by following the lockdown rules and getting tested early if identified as a contact of an exposure location or experiencing symptoms.

Testing update

We remind Canberrans to continue to get tested. With active community transmission of COVID-19, it’s important for you to get tested even with the mildest of symptoms.

Keep up to date on testing service arrangements through ACT Health social media channels and the where to get tested page.

Stay COVID safe

Thank you to all Canberrans for doing the right thing and staying at home. This is the single most important thing we can all do at this time to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

We remind people that if undertaking essential activity out of the home to take precautions to protect yourself and your family. Wear a mask, maintain good hand hygiene, keep your distance and use the Check In CBR app.
