Travel to NSW from the ACT expanded

From midday today, ACT residents can travel for any reason to an expanded list of approved border postcodes in the surrounding NSW region and NSW residents from these approved postcodes can also travel to the ACT freely.

People with an exemption request for travel from the expanded list of approved postcodes will no longer need an exemption. Individuals that have an exemption application currently in the system will be notified via email that their exemption has now been withdrawn. Individuals do not need to wait for a notification from ACT Health to travel in the approved postcodes.

This decision will better align ACT and NSW travel restrictions for our region.

When travelling, ACT and NSW residents must remember to abide by the Health Directions in the state or territory, they are in. For example, in NSW people are required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated. Please ensure that you have the Proof of Vaccination documentation that is required before you travel. Information on these requirements is on the Services Australia website.

ACT residents will not need to quarantine when returning from an approved border postcode unless they are identified as a close contact from an ACT or NSW exposure location, or if they are coming from a COVID affected area outside of the approved border postcodes.

Following the expansion of the approved border region postcodes, anyone in the ACT that is currently under quarantine arrangements due to having visited one of the approved postcodes is now free to leave quarantine at midday today.

This only applies to those who are in quarantine due to travelling within these approved postcodes. It does not apply to identified close contacts or those in quarantine for any other reason.

Whenever people travel, they should be especially vigilant in monitoring for symptoms, get tested immediately with even mild symptoms and keep checking for updates about where they have been.

More information and the approved list of postcodes is on the ACT COVID-19 website.
