Canberrans urged to stay COVID Safe while outdoors

With the warmer weather, Canberrans are being reminded that the ACT is still in lockdown and that it is important people are sensible and doing the right thing.

ACT Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerryn Coleman said now is not the time to become complacent.

“Although our daily case numbers have remained relatively stable, we are still seeing new cases every day who have been in the community for at least part of their infectious period,” Dr Coleman said.

“This means there is active transmission in the community and we need everyone to continue to do the right thing and to be sensible.

“I know that with the warmer weather people want to be outdoors. However, now is not the time to become complacent.

“We are still in lockdown, which means you need to minimise your time in the community and only leave your home for the approved reasons.

“When you are outside the home, it is important to avoid places that look crowded – for example if a supermarket looks busy, consider returning at a later time.

“Now that people can gather outdoors with four other people, keep in mind those COVID safe behaviours, and in particular maintaining distance from people you don’t know.

“It is also important to ensure you are wearing a mask when required to do so and that you are wearing it properly. This is the safest way that you can be outdoors at this time.”
